That sounds like a DLL was not registered properly during Setup. You could try going to a command prompt, navigate to the directory for devenv.exe (or vwdexpress.exe), and try 'devenv.exe /resetskippkgs' or 'devenv.exe /setup' to see if that fixes it. If not, I would remove VS 2005, temporarily turn off all virus detection, ad-blocking, and ad-popup software and reinstall VS 2005
