Utilizing multi-core processors in NS-2

I have a Corei7 laptop with an 8 GM RAM, and running NS-2.35 on Fedora 16. I am carrying a number of heavy and time consuming simulations but unfortunately the resources of the multiple cores microprocessors are not utilized fully. Where only a single core is utilized 100% while the rest are almost idle.

Can anyone suggest any settings, configurations that can allow NS-2.35 simulator to utilize multi-core processors?

The simple solution is to start two (or more, depending on the number of CPU cores) simulation runs in parallel.
