I beg your pardon?

虽然我们可以说流利的国语，但在日常生活中，偶尔会遇到沟通上的问题，例如错过了一些重要词语，此时我们就会要求对方重述一遍。当用英语跟别人交谈时，遇到类似情况，你要赶快向人家说"I beg your pardon?"（请你再说一遍）。这句话可以说是最礼貌请别人重复说话的讲法，除此之外，也可简单说"Pardon?"、"What's that?"或"Excuse me?"，意思也是一样。不过，"I beg your pardon?"用在另一个情况时也可以变成很不礼貌的句子。例如当别人在言语上冒犯了你或说了些你不爱听的说话，你也可对他说"I beg your pardon?"这里含有挑战的意味，彷佛表示:“有种的话你就再说一遍”的意思。

对话
A：I have to quit my studies and find a job.
B：I beg your pardon?
A：My father lost his job recently, we need the money.
B：You mean...you have to leave college?
A：I'm afraid so.
甲：我要退学和找一份工作。
乙：你说什么？
甲：我的爸爸最近失业，我们需要钱。
乙：你是说…你要辍学？
甲：我恐怕要了。

听不清楚人家说话，怎么请他再说一遍，在较早前已经说过了；现在不妨谈谈recently和一些相关问题。
Recently是‘最近’。My father lost his job recently是说‘我爸爸最近失业了’，句子用了过去式动词(past tense) lost，改用现在完成式 (present perfect tense) has lost可不可以？
Recently和just（刚刚）、already（已经）一样，可以和过去式、现在完成式动词连用，意思没有什么分别，例如：(1) I have just seen her. (= I just saw her我刚刚见过她）。(2) I have already seen her. (= I already saw her我已经见过她）。My father has lost his job recently. 这说法当然没有错。
This morning（今天上午）、this afternoon（今天下午）也可以和过去式和现在完成式动词连用，但意思却有不同。I have done a lot of work this morning.和I did a lot of work this morning.都可译做‘我今早做了很多工作’，但第一句说的时候 ‘今早’还未过去；第二句则应是下午或晚上说的。
至于today（今天），It was hot today.（今天很热）一语应是黄昏时说的，说话者视‘今天’已经过去；It has been hot today.则可以是下午或黄昏时说的，说话者的意思是‘今天’还未过去。说‘今天’一些过去了的事，则用过去式动词比较好。I have talked with her today.（今天我跟她谈过了。）一语，说起来就没有I talked with her today.那么自然。
