9.about

环绕=around sit about/around the campfire 坐在营火边 turn about/ around向后转 beat about/around the bush说话兜圈子	stop beating about the bush and get to the point. 说话别再兜圈子了，快说重点
有关 = on/concerning/regarding.	write an article about/on/concerning/regarding air pollution.

10.after

在(一段时间)之后	the man came back to his hometown after three years.
表追逐，与动词连用。 be after + 人 =run after + 人 =chase (after) + 人 追逐/追捕某人	the police are still after the thief. the police are still running after the thief. the police are still chasing (after) the thief. 警察仍在追缉这名小偷。 he is chasing (after) mary. 他正在追求玛丽。
像，模仿 take after… =resemble … =look like…像…	he takes after his father. he resembles his father. he looks like his father. 他长得像他爸爸。

11.toward

toward，朝向 比较： forward 往前adv backward 往后，倒退adv wayward 任性的，四面八方的adj	toward sb.朝某人的方向。 toward the station.朝车站的方向。 toward evening.快傍晚时。 the girl ran toward him with a bright smile. the little child is todding forward. 那个小孩正摇摇晃晃的向前走。 the students were asked to run backward. 学生们被要求倒退着跑。 she is a wayward girl, who never thinks about others. 她是个任性的女孩，从不会为别人着想。
对于 one's attitude toward/ to 某人对……的态度	what's your attitude toward mercy killing? 你对安乐死的看法如何？

12.except

常与完全adj(all, every, any, no)连用，除…之外	all except him will go. everybody can do it except peter. he enjoys nothing except/but music.
except that…/ except for + 名词 只可惜…只不过是…	he is quite nice except that he is bad-tempered. he is quite nice except for his bad temper. 他人蛮不错的，只不过脾气不好。
