How to import label files in ax 2012

In DAX 2012, label files can be very frustrating.  If you delete the actual files in the Application directory, AX may regenerate them.  If you edit the file, AX may overwrite your changes.  Models do not have all of the label files (and dont’ get us started on $AA label files).

But all is not lost!

You can import label files in the AOT.  You can export label files in the AOT.

To import a label file:

In the AOT, there is now a node called “Label Files”.  It is easy to miss, and if you are a long-time Axapta nerd (like us) you probably missed it because it was never there before.

Importing one is very easy.  Simply, right-click on the Label file node and select “Create from File”.

That’s all there is to it!

To export a label file:

This one is not as nice.  You have to go to the actual language in the label file node:

Right-click on the language you want to export and it will save it to a .ald file.  The only bummer about this is that you have to do it for every language.
