She Is Lonelier than the Skyrocket

If you give a glance at the list of the top musicians in the 20 centuries, the name――Jacqueline Du Pré is easy to spot. Maybe it‘s not so familiar to us, certainly including me. But with more hints, most of us will take a tumble. There‘s a film named Hilary and Jackie, the Chinese interpretation is She is lonelier than the skyrocket or Madly falling in love with the cello. Jackie is based on the real character―― Jacqueline Du Pré who is dazzling as a world renowned cellist.

Without watching this film, I will take her story as one of the talented musicians who was born in great brilliance, showing their talent to the world in an early age and faded away in the prime of life or died young. However, the film shows an absolutely   opposite scene. The story of this brilliant girl is so touching and tragic.

“When I was a kid, I took it for granted that I would find the ideal happy life through a long tough journey and suffering; when I was a kid, even some one told me, everything would come to a pass, also sounded like kidding.”

This is the beginning of Hilary and Jackie, It‘s accepted that she has a happy childhood. She‘s born in a traditional music family, and has a pianist mom, an ingenuous papa, a little brother and a tolerant sister. In a wonderful environment with music and love, she grows. In the first few years without the spotlight, harboring a beautiful wish in her heart.

However, after her first concert, everything changes. The concert is so successful that it almost throws her to the spotlight of the whole world. Actually, her genius shined brightly though so young and her mom gave most of concern to her music talent, on the contrary, nobody told her how to live and how to look after herself. So she is a kid then and still is forever. After many years may she understand that instantaneous success is at the cost of her whole life of loneliness and being hurt? Properly the answer is no, because she is so naughty a kid that never has she felt safe and pursed safety of a whole life.

The destiny has been sentenced when we were born, maybe there is no escape. I still remember the words when her teacher gave her the namable cello DaviDoff”: “It will give you the world, but you must give it yourself”. These words seem to be  a curse to her…… When everything comes to the dreariness, she is lonelier than the skyrocket. She is fortunate to have talent but unfortunate to have no choice.

At the end of the film, Jackie seemed to come back to her childhood. Not until she saw the little Jackie was running happily with her sister, did she realize that everything would come to a pass, love and hatred, happiness and sadness, honor and humility, even youth, disease and so on .everything will pass away.

When all the glory and time return to the beginning, she just said “everything is going to be OK”.
