AxShDocVw, SHDocVw, mshtml References
I've been embedding the IE component in Windows.Forms apps for some time now but need to do it fairly infrequently. Each time I have to start a new project, I always forget how to add references in my VS.NET project for AxShDocVw, SHDocVw and mshtml. This message is a reminder...
Microsoft.mshtml
This is an easy one: mshtml is a .NET assembly listed under the .NET tab of the Add Reference dialog box. It's listed under Microsoft.mshtml. Choosing this item adds the Microsoft.mshtml entry to your project's References folder.
SHDocVw
This one is pretty easy too: it's a component listed under the COM tab of the Add Reference dialog box. Look for the component name Microsoft Internet Controls. Choosing this item adds the SHDocVw entry to your project's References folder.
AxShDocVw
This is the silly one. It's a COM component, but you need to add it in a round-about way:
- Open your Windows.Form in design view.
- Open the Toolbox explorer and click the Components pane.
- Right-click in the Components pane and choose Add/Remove items...
- Under the COM Components tab look for the item Microsoft Web Browser.
- Check the box next to this item and click OK
- A new entry is added to the Toolbox Components pane named Microsoft Web Browser.
You can now use this component on your Form by simply dragging it onto the form under design view. When you do this, the AxSHDocVw entry is added to the project's References folder; it does not appear there until you start using the component.
Now you should have access to the full capabilities of the IE control in a Windows.Form.
