Once upon a time, there is a willing couple. It is a pity that they want a baby, but their wish never come true. Standing behind the couple’s house, a garden belonging to a powerful witch is always surrounded with tall wall preventing others from here.

One day, the wife found an inviting lettuce in the garden. However, frightened and timid, the wife couldn’t get this lettuce into her stomach and the desire was extended day by day. As she became gaunter and gaunter, the husband determined to get that lettuce for his love. So he carefully slid into the garden and got a lettuce to his wife.

But the next day, his wife wanted more. He had to slide into the garden again. Unfortunately, he was caught by the witch.
“Poor me, forgive me. I can't help that. My wife saw the lettuce in your garden through the window. She wanted to eat it so much that she would die if she couldn't.” The husband pray to he witch.
Hearing this, the witch said to him, " If things are like you said, I can let you pick any lettuce, but I have a condition: you must give me the child your wife is going to have. I'll make her live fine and treat her like a mother."
The husband, afraid, had to say yes to the witch. As soon as the wife gave birth to the child, the witch came, gave the child the name "lettuce", and then took her away.

When Lettuce was twelve, the witch locked her in a tower. The tower was in the forest, with neither stairs nor doors, but a small window on the top. Whenever the witch wanted to get in, she stood under the tower and cried:"Lettuce, lettuce, hang your hair down.”
Lettuce had long, golden hair. When the witch cried, she would loosened her braids and put it down. Then the witch climbed up with her long hair.

One day, a prince rode past the tower. Then he suddenly heard a beautiful song, and stopped to listen quietly. It was the lettuce who sang, and she had to spend her time in loneliness. The prince tried to climb to the top of the tower to see her, so he looked around for the door. But he could not find it. When he returned to the palace, the song had already been so impressed by him that he rode to the forest every day to listen.
By chance, he stood behind a tree, and saw the witch coming, and heard her shout at the top of the tower: "Lettuce, lettuce, hang your hair down.”
The Lettuce immediately dropped her braids, and the witch climbed up along it. So the prince made a decision. The next evening he came to the tower and called: "Lettuce, lettuce, hang your hair down.”
His hair immediately hung down, and the prince climbed up to it. When he asked her if she would marry him, she saw that the prince was young and handsome and thought, " This man will like me better than my godmother."She then agreed, and reached out to the prince.
After that, they agreed to meet in the late evening. But one day the leunet accidentally said that she had met the prince. So the witch angrily sent her away.

The witch tied the cut braids to the window hook at the top of the tower. The prince came up and shouted: "Lettuce, lettuce, hang your hair down.”
The witch put down the hair, and the prince climbed up to it. However, he did not see the beloved Lettuce, but saw the witch was staring at him fiercely."aha!"She said to the prince," Have you come to meet your sweetheart? But the beautiful birds will not sing in the nest again. She was caught away by the cat, and the cat had to dig out your eyes. Your Lettucette is dead, and you don't want to see her again."
The prince was in great pain, and jumped down from the tower in despair. He fell into the thorn bushes, and though he did not die, his eyes went blind. He walked aimlessly through the forest, eating only grass roots and berries, and crying bitterly every day for the loss of his lover. He thus around the forest for several years, and finally came to the wilderness where Leuntuce had suffered. Lettuce had given birth to twins, a son and a daughter. The prince heard her voice, and found it sound familiar, and walked there.
As he approached, Lettuce recognized him. Two of her tears moistened his eyes and restored their light. He could see things again as before. He returned to his kingdom with his wife and children, and was greeted by his subjects. They lived happily for a long time.
