But i recommend you to package file like this:

For example.

Change directory into the source codes folder:

then,

alex@universe /tmp/geos-3.4.2 $ sudo checkinstall -D -install=no -pkgversion=3.4.2 --pkgname=geos make install

There will be a deb package here built in the folder.
