(Debater #4):
I think my team member have expressed clearly that Social media can help people to get more and more closer, and I will put my focus on another aspect: those who can’t communicate as normal person. As we all know, there are some people around us: they have problem with Physiology or psychology or they are just old. If they are deaf or dumb or they are too old and their hearing is bad, they can’t communicate with people normally, or they are just not confident or socially anxious, they are too shy to communicate with anyone face-to-face even have trouble talking to their close friends. With social media, they can communicate with others more easily than ever before; bring them more close to others.
And I will give you an example: I read a blog in the net, his mother is in her 80s, and she lives on her own and doesn’t get out much. He visits her every weekend but during the week I think she gets a bit lonely because she’s always been very sociable. Then, he gave his mother an iPad, and a few months ago she joined Facebook, and I can’t tell you how wonderful this has been for her. She can now connect with her friends and family, her grandchildren, see what everyone’s up to and interact with them on a daily basis. She’s totally got the hang of it, she’s always on there, she’s very witty and articulate which no body had never realized before because she’s hard of hearing, so in real life she often isn’t able to join in much with conversations, but on Facebook, she’s right there with no disadvantages to hold her back.
