Portbal Hard driver cannot be recgonized

Last week, My notebook ask me to install update before shut down when I were trying to power off. but, I force power off. And never boot up. I am afraid whether the hard driver is over. I take it off and connect to another notebook as USB hard driver. but still cannot be recognized. Is it really over? When I tried to use computer manager, find this driver does not be assign logical driver character. Assign it and it works again.!
