Wavelets
The information of interest is often a combination of phenomena that are transient (e.g., spike and action potentials) and diffuse (e.g., small oscillations and semi-periodic activations).
To analyze such signals, there is a need for methods that are sufficiently versatile to capture events that present these extremes by localizing information from a time-frequency point of view.
