NeHe OpenGL Lesson31 – Model Loading

screen_shot15-300x225 This sample shows us how to parse, load and display texture mapped Milkshape3D models.

Milkshape3D is a free modeling package. Of course it is not popular as Maya or 3D Max. If you want to save money or avoid license problem, Milkshape3D should be a good choice for you.
A Milkshape3D file format parser also provided here. This parser written with native c++ code without using MS3D(short for Milkshape3D) sdk library(I am not sure whether it had some sdks or not). And MS3D format is not a kind of popular file format like FBX, so this may cause some serious problem as versions updating. We have to read those murky TDD and modify our code and even re-write the reading code. Well, all that is beyond this sample. Loading the file from the disc, read vertex position, mesh triangles, texture coordinates, materials and textures, then display the what you read on the screen with OpenGL API.

The full source code could be checked from here.
