We have a new additional distribution format for WLS in the form of a zip as of 10.3.3. This distribution is significantly smaller and is intended for development use only. It is supported on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X platforms.
Go ahead and grab it from here, unzip it, run the configure script and you are all set to use WLS in your development environment. There is a top level README.txt in the zip. Please follow the instructions to get setup properly. You can find more information about the zip distribution here.
Mac OS X support
This is the first time WLS is officially being supported on Mac OS X platforms. This distribution will make it easier for Mac users to setup WLS.
OEPE setup
The zip distribution does not include OEPE. If you want to use Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse, we recommend that you use the 'Eclipse Update Manager'. You can find instructions here.
Components not included in the zip distribution
1. Samples & Derby database
2. WebServer plug-ins
3. Native JNI libraries for unsupported platforms
4. Coherence
Usage criteria
You may want to use the zip distribution if
1. You don't need any of the above (not-included) features
2. You need WLS for development use (on Mac, Linux or Windows)
3. You don't intend to do any in-place upgrade of this installation in the future.
4. You are fine with manually patching the installation for bug fixes.
If your requirements don't match these criteria, then it is recommend that you choose one of the traditional installers.
