Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder is a powerful toolset that allows you to capture physical Oracle Fusion
Middleware (FMW) 11g deployments and create virtual machine assemblies for deployment to the
Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM) platform. In this lab you will have the opportunity to experiment with
Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder and try out some of the steps involved in introspecting and capturing an
Oracle WebLogic Server 11g domain using the OVAB Studio GUI. However, in the time available, you
will not be able to complete the process of deploying that image to the Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM)
infrastructure – to enable you to see how the end-to-end process works, we have prepared a short Flash
movie which will take you through the steps involved in completing the deployment and you are welcome
to watch this during the lab (please turn the sound on your computer down or use headphones to avoid
disturbing others!).
Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder has been pre-installed on a Virtual Box virtual machine running Oracle
Enterprise Linux 5u4 – your instructor will show you how to start and log on to the virtual machine. Your
instructor will guide you through the steps involved in using the Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder Studio to
create a virtual assembly based on an example WebLogic Server domain that has been pre-installed for
you: the following sections are intended for reference and to help you with the individual steps. Please
note that you may not be able to try out all of these options in the lab environment : do ask your instructor
if you have questions about any of this material. Enjoy!
