foster和nurture的区别

根据Merriam-Webster的解释，在表示“使某事物成长、发展”这个意思时，两者是同义词：

nurture a friendship. 经营一段友谊

The dead grass rotted in the warm water, releasing nutrients that fostered algae. 死去的草在温暖的水中腐烂，释放出的养分会滋生藻类

 

在表示养育孩子时，两者则完全不同：

foster是收养：

fostered child 养子（女）

it's just her luck she'd find a partner who not only adores dogs but fosters them for a Sacramento animal shelter. 暂时收养受伤的动物

nurture是喂养：

care for and nurture a baby. 照料并喂养一个婴儿

 

此外，nurture还有“教育教学”的意思：

nurture kids in clean, colorful rooms with the latest books and learning gadgets. 在干净的彩色房间里，用尽量少的书和学习用工具（电脑、iPad、什么的）给孩子们上课。
