contemplate、consider、study和weigh的区别

contemplate、consider、study和weigh都表示经过思考而做出决定的意思。

他们的区别在于：

contemplate强调思考的过程本身。

consider强调思考后做出的决定。

study强调决定是通过严谨的研究的。

weigh强调决定时在几个选项中进行了权衡。

 

具体的例子：

 

he refused even to consider my proposal. 

这里的consider虽然可以翻译成“考虑”，但是说话人的关注点实际上是考虑的最终结果，即接受不接受你的提议。

 

对于contemplate，则是强调说话人认为动作人还在思考、犹豫，还没有得出结论：

contemplate the consequences of refusing

这里是劝说对方好好想想后果再做决定，强调的是想的过程。

 

下面这句的study表示，思考的过程采取了严谨或科学的手段：

study the plan closely

 

而weigh则表示，用于做出决定的材料之间有冲突矛盾，必须艰难取舍：

weigh the pros and cons of the case
