How to use MOS Patch Planner to check and request the conflict patches ?
Solution
Pre- Requirement
- You should have the OCM configured for the Oracle home .
- OCM 10.3.2 or higher is required to get the MOS patch planner feature .Please refer the following article for complete information

Key Features of MOS patch planner
- You can plan the application of patch without applying the patch.
- Help you to plan your patching activity.
- It detects the patch conflicts with the already applied patches in an Oracle home.
- You can request for the merge /overlay patch through MOS patch planner ,if overlay/merge patch is NOT yet requested/available.
- You can directly download the patch, if merge/overlay patch is already available.
Steps Summary
1.Logon to support.oracle.com
2.Open the "Patch and Updates" tab in MOS
3.Enter the patch number you want to apply
4.Create a plan
5.Validate or Analyze the plan to check the conflict
6.Review and download the available patch and request for replacement patch
Steps to use the MOS patch planner
Step 1: Open the "Patch and Updates" tab of MOS
Enter the patch number that you want to install .( In our example :11724930 PSU Apr2011)
Click on the "Search" button to get list of patches for all the available platform

Step 2: Search result will list the patch for all the available platform .
Select the patch for your Operating system ( In our example : Linux x86-64)

Step 3: Click on the "Add to Plan" button
You will have two options 1) Add to new Plan 2) Add to existing

Step 4: Give a name to your plan ,if you are adding a new plan.
Search for the target ,if you have multiple hosts registered with your ID.
Choose the Host or Oracle home to which you are planning to apply this patch

Step5: Once you create a plan you will get a pop-up at the top of browser. To view the plan, click on "View Plan"

Steps 6: It will show you the patch that you are planning to apply.

Step 7: To check the conflicts and available patches, click on "Analyze"

Step8: Analysis is in progress.

Steps 9 : Now the result will show list of all the conflicting patches ,if any.
If merge/overlay is NOT available, then you can request a merge/overlay patch for the conflicting patches.
If the merge/overlay for the conflicting patch is already available then it will ask you to replace the patch with the available merge/overlay patch

Steps 10 : If patch is not available then we can request for the merge/overlay patch.
It will show you the status " Pending Request "
