Spend a few days in Johor Bahru. There are a number of museums, the Royal Mauseoleum (final resting place for Johor Royalty) and a busy night market.

Visit the Royal Abu Bakar Museum in Johor Bahru. It used to be the main palace of the Johor Royal family but was turned into a museum in 1990. The museum houses a vast collection of art, memorabilia and the sultan's personal belongings. It provides a rare glimpse into the life of a sultan. Foreigner's pay more than the locals, but it is worth the expense. Daily hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. except for Fridays.



Eat some seafood in the fishing village of Kukup, Johor. It is Southwest of Johor Bahru on the Strait of Melaka. It is famous for prawns and the chili crab dish. The concentration of small restaurants are along the jetty allowing for a great view with your meal. If you are interested, you can hire a boat from here and visit the aqua farms where crabs and different fish are commercially raised.



Relax at the Desaru beach, definitely the most popular and due to the traffic of folks from Singapore. There are a number of affordable places to stay.

Explore the Mersing islands off of the Eastern coast of Johor. With over 20 different islands designated as marine parks and protected, there is much to see. There are a number of choices for accommodations and any level of activity.
