Q:hello all,

Can i have first hand info on the following hotel - The Elegance Suites (http://www.elegance.th.com/)

it seems to be very oddly located in silom area.

more specifically i needed to know that if i were to stay there how long would it take me in peak traffic as well as non peak traffic to go to the shopping area/malls in Siam square area like paragon and mbk etc.

also how much would it app cost me by taxi.

we are with an infant so would not like to walk ard much to get to alternative transport as it doesnt seem like the bts sky station is very near either.

thanks for all yr help
A:I do not have first-hand information on Elegance Suites, but suggest that if you want to be closer to shopping, you might look at The Adelphi Suites. I have been staying in this apartment hotel my last two visits to Bangkok, and will again in just two weeks from now. The location is on Sukhumvit soi 8. It is about a 1-minute walk to the skytrain escalator (Nana station) which is one to two stops from shopping (or you can also walk to shopping). Traffic being the way it is in Bangkok, taking the skytrain is the best way to get around, IMO.

A:i looked at their location and they are on a soi off of n. sathorn....that is a terrible traffic area most all day long, so taxi travel is not good, but along silom rd there is some good shopping and that is not far...

personally i would shop for a serviced apartment nearer to sukhumvit rd/peenochit rd, the main shopping areas....

adelphi is one as carol has suggested....

centre point is another with one on wireless rd and another on luang suan rd....

ascott is another with a couple of places nearby....

taxis are cheap, even with traffic jams.....no ride would be more than $5.

i tend to use the skytrain and then take a taxi for the final part of the trip getting there and take a taxi back to the hotel from my last shopping place...

there are a couple of hotels around MBK as well...
A:An older type economy type hotel with fairly nice clean rooms and great friedly staff. It is down a busy oneway street that for taxis is hard to find sometimes. But it in a good location about a 5 minute walk to the skytrain/ferry stops. So for shopping in the Siam area just use the skytrain.

You mention one-way traffic. That is a real problem IMO with the Sofitel. The taxi traffic can come to a complete stand-still, right outside the door of the hotel, and just sit and wait. The long one-way line is trying to merge onto Sukhumvit from soi 6. It can be a real nightmare, if one is trying to get somewhere in a taxi during rush hour!
