Memory Usage: 39 MB, less than 90 %

    public int search(int[] nums, int target) {
        int left = 0;
        int right = nums.length - 1;
        
        while(left <= right) {
            int mid = left + (right - left) / 2;
            
            if(nums[mid] == target)
                return mid;
            else if(nums[mid] < target) // if mid is less than target, move to right half
                left = mid + 1;
            else // if mid is greater than target, move to left half
                right = mid - 1;
        }
        
        return -1;
    }
}
