What is the difference between "transit","transfer","transmit... and "transport"

transfer is to relocate/move
transmit is to communicate/send 

 

Transfer and Transit, are used with things we can touch as the same meaning of moving or relocate.
Transmit, is used with things we can't touch like data or signals radio of a broadcast.

Transmit is only used as a verb. As a transitive verb it means “to move something from one place to another” but it is mainly used for telecommunication signals and diseases — things that can’t easily be seen. It can also be an intransitive verb, meaning “to produce a signal”.

 The illness is transmitted through respiratory droplets. (transitive)

 The radio station is now transmitting. (intransitive)

Transit is rarely used as a verb. It only tends to be used as a verb in some specific scientific contexts. As a noun, it means “journey from one place to another”. In North America, it can also mean a public transport system. In Europe, the Ford Transit is also a popular model of van.

 That will affect the transit of goods through the area.

Transfer is both a noun and a verb, and as a verb it is usually transitive. You would only use it as an intransitive verb if it is clear what you are talking about. As a verb it means “to move (something) from one place to another”. As a noun, it means “act of transferring”.

 I will transfer the money tomorrow. (transitive verb)

 It has been transferred. (intransitive verb)

The transfer of files to the new computer is complete. (noun)
