Batch Management for Pharmaceuticals

Pharma: Batch Management

This Building Block describes all the necessary activities to setup a Batch Management for the following pharmaceutical materials which are handled by batches:

• finished goods
• semi-finished materials (bulk)
• raw materials
• packaging materials
• non-valuated materials

As indicated above in SAP Best Practices for Pharmaceuticals product packages, blisters and foils which might get in contact with the product are managed by batches as well. This applies also for processing aids and operating facilities, such as filters, which contact the product e.g. tablets during the production process are equally to be managed by batches.

In SAP Best Practices for Pharmaceuticals batches are unique at material level (class type 023). Internal number will be assigned to all batches during goods receipt and manufacturing. The appropriate batch number will be generated automatically by using standard user exits.

Batch management is concept used to manage pharmaceuticals products in order to monitor closely regarding composition of them ,remaining shelf life, expiration time ,SLED time(self life expiration date) etc..
