award和reward的意思几乎一样。细究的话：

Award and achievement both contain the letter A, and an award is usually something given by one person to another for some sort of achievement. Rewards aren't always given by someone, and they don't necessarily have to do with an achievement.

A saying (谚语), "virtue is its own reward" (做好事即乐在其中)是上述差异的一个例子，我整天写随笔是个小小的实践。:-)

Yao won the A.M. Turing Award in 2000. Yao was born in Shanghai, China, in 1946. His birth name is Yao Qi-zhi (Pinyin). He holds two Ph.D.s, one in physics, conferred in 1972 by Harvard University, the other in computer science, conferred in 1975 by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Gosling is generally credited with creating the original Java design and implementing the original compiler and virtual machine. In 2002, Gosling was awarded The Economist Innovation Award.

In 1983, Ritchie and Thompson received the Turing Award for their development of generic operating systems theory and specifically for the implementation of the UNIX operating system. Ritchie's Turing Award lecture was titled "Reflections [沉思;回忆;思考] on Software Research". In 1990, both Ritchie and Thompson received the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), "for the origination of the UNIX operating system and the C programming language".

The Dennis M. Ritchie Doctoral Dissertation Award was created in 2013 by ACM SIGOPS (Special Interest Group in Operating Systems) to recognize research in software systems and to encourage the creativity that Dennis Ritchie embodied, providing a reminder of Ritchie's legacy and what a difference one person can make in the field of software systems research. This is an annual award presented in alternating years at SOSP (Symposium on Operating Systems Principles) and OSDI (Operating Systems: Design and Implementation).

Linus Torvalds is a software engineer and developer of Linux Kernel. He has also won the IEEE computer society pioneer award in the year 2014, and later on, he won IEEE MASARU IBUKA CONSUMER ELECTRONICS AWARD. He is very well-known for Linux, Subsurface, and Git. He shared the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize and was voted one of the "most important people" of the 20th century in a 1999 Time poll. Subsurface is a software for logging and planning scuba dives. It was initially designed and developed by Linus Torvalds and Dirk Hohndel in 2011.
