academy

at/in school都行,academy一般用at。

The Academy Award (trademark, TM) is an annual [年度的] award given to a performer, director, technician, etc., of the motion-picture industry for superior achievement in a specific category: judged by the voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and symbolized by the presentation of a statuette (Oscar).

biweekly: 1. once every two weeks; 2. twice a week.

A military [军事的] academy or service academy (in the United States) is an educational institution which prepares candidates for service in the officer corps [从事某活动的集体。 It normally provides education in a military environment, the exact definition depending on the country concerned. A naval [海军] academy is either a type of military academy (in the broad sense of that term [术语]) or is distinguished from one (in the narrow sense). [military特指陆军] In U.S. usage, the United States Military Academy, the United States Naval Academy, and the United States Air Force Academy serve as military academies under the categorization of service academies in that country.

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point's [西点军校] mission [使命] is "to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets [军警校学员] so that each graduate is a commissioned [看下面] leader of character [看下面] committed [译为委身于极不appropriate] to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army."

commission: 委任,as in "委任状"。

Police Academy is a series of American comedy films, the first six of which were made in the 1980s and the seventh in 1994. The series opened with Police Academy (1984) which started with the premise [前提] that a new mayor had announced a policy requiring the police department to accept all willing recruits [应征者]. The film followed [剧情follow前提] a group of misfit recruits in their attempts to prove themselves capable of being police officers, and succeeding both in spite of and because of their eccentricities [不共心的圆、不正的圆、离经叛道、古怪]. The main character in the first four films, Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg), was a repeat offender [惯犯] who was forced to join the police academy as punishment. The seventh and |to date|[up to now] last installment [下面], Mission to Moscow, was released in 1994. It's a stupid and dull movie.

installment: 1. 2. one of the parts of a story that appears as a series of parts。

Q. Are "academic" and "academical" completely equivalents? What about "academically"? (vs. "scholar", "scholarly")
A. The standard adjective [形容词] is academic and the standard adverb [副词] is academically in contemporary [当代] English. The noun [名词] for a person who teaches at a university, besides the word professor, is academic.

A scholar and an academic can sometimes be used interchangeably. The difference is this: One can be a scholar and not necessarily associated with teaching at a university. If you have a Phd and publish [出版物] in your field, you can be a scholar but not necessarily an academic (teaching).

Academical is not something one sees in most texts. And it also means something in philosophy, not that anyone cares.
