Tips for International Travelers

Do you spend a lot of time traveling back and forth between distant places?   Do you suffer from jet lag, feeling tired after every international flight?

If you answered "yes" to either of these questions, these travel tips may help you! Follow the instructions below for a relaxing flight.

1. ARRIVE EARLY. When you book an international flight, make sure to arrive at the airport two hours before the plane is scheduled to leave. Even though you reserved a space and have your ticket already, you need to give yourself enough time to check your luggage.

2. RESERVE A GOOD SEAT. If you are sensitive to loud noise, sit in the front of the plane so the sound of the engines won't bother you. If you need extra room for your legs, try to sit in the row next to the emergency exit. Finally, if you prefer wider and more comfortable seats, see if you can upgrade from economy class to business class so you can sit in this roomier, more desirable section of the plane.

3. SET YOUR WATCH. If you usually feel tired and uncomfortable after an international flight, you probably have jet lag. To prevent jet lag, set your watch to the time of your destination as soon as you get on the airplane. Try to get used to the new time. The sooner your mind adjusts to the new time, the sooner your body will adjust, too!

4. EAT WELL. If you experience stomachaches or dryness after an international flight, you may be sensitive to the food. Next time, order a special meal in advance, and prevent dryness by drinking lots of water and juice. Don't drink coffee, beer, or wine, however. These drinks can make your body lose water.

5. TAKE A NAP. Do you usually feel sleepy when you arrive at an international destination? Do you go to bed right away and spend several hours sleeping because you have not slept enough during the trip? If so, try to take a nap on the airplane. If the plane is not full, you may even find a few seats in the back where you can lie down. If you need extra pillows or blankets, ask the flight attendant.

If you follow these suggestions, you'll recover from long flights and feel good again in no time. When you arrive at your destination, you'll be refreshed and ready to do business!
