Nowadays the elecric technology is developing faster and faster, portable electronics have been gaini

ng its popularity in the world.

At this point, let us make a introduction about

Pervasive Computing

Pervasive Computing2

§      Problem 1:

The electric technology we have used in home appliances.

§      Problem 2:

The electronic products we have used on building systems.

To solve these two problems, we have to put forward the idea of Pervasive Computing (Ubiquitous Computing).

Pervasive include a lot of information, for instance U-HOME, U-CARE and so on, we pay more attention to the U-home. And then we can solve the two problems

What is Pervasive Computing? (Mark Weiser (1991))

Pervasive computing has many potential applications from health and home care to environmental monitoring and intelligent transport systems. This briefing provides an overview of pervasive computing and discusses the growing debate over privacy, safety and environment implications.

Pervasive computing gives us tools to manage information easily.

Pervasive computing is about making lives simpler.
Pervasive computing aims to enable people to accomplish an increasing number of personal and professional transactions using a new class of intelligent and portable devices. It gives people convenient access to relevant information stored on powerful networks, allowing them to easily take action anywhere, anytime.

These new intelligent appliances or "smart devices" are embedded with microprocessors that allow users to plug into intelligent networks and gain direct, simple, and secure access to both relevant information and services. These devices are as simple to use as calculators, telephones or kitchen toasters.

Pervasive computing simplifies life by combining open standards-based applications with everyday activities. It removes the complexity of new technologies, enables us to be more efficient in our work and leaves us more leisure time. Computing is no longer a discrete activity bound to a desktop; pervasive computing is fast becoming a part of everyday life.

So we can know from the explanation that what Pervasive Computing wants to do is to use the new electric technology and electric products in building systems and home appliances. And make our life much more easily.

We usually divide the pervasive computing into three parts.

Sensors: input devices that detect environment changes, user behaviors, human commands etc;.

Processors: electronic systems that interpret and analyses input-date

Actuator: Output devices that respond to processed information by altering the environment via electronic or mechanical means.

The sensor is one of the important things ,I think the best way to solve these two problems is to use this point to know more about the electric technology we have used in home appliances and building systems.

Sensors:

  Bluetooth

Blue tooth

2001, Haier use the blue tooth to connect the electric products like TV, refrigerator, air conditioning, telephone etc. When people come into home, all the things in this system will be open.

It is clear that the electric technology make our house much more convince.

The same to the Bluetooth, there are a lot of other sensors.

 WI-FI

WI –FI

Infrared ray

  Cameera

The CCD camera we used in building systems is according to the Sensors of Infrared ray

Internet

In my opinion they are two aspects about pervasive computing.

Connectivity

Pervasive computing systems will rely on the interlinking of independent electronic devices into broader networks. This can be achieve via both wired (such as Broadband (ADSL) or Ethernet) and wireless networking technologies (such as WI-FI or Blue tooth), with   the devices themselves being capable of assessing the most effective form of connectivity in any given scenario. The effective devel-opment of pervasive computing systems depends on their degree of interoperability, as well as on the convergence of standards for wired and wireless technologies.

Domiciliary care

Pervasive computing may help address the consequences of this imbalance .improved methods for monitoring health and well bei-ng could allow people to live longer in their own homes. Sensors embedded in items of clothing, for example, might allow constant monitoring of heart rates, body-mass index, blood pressure and other physiological variables. Further sensors embedded throughout the home could detect movement and fluctuations within the ambient environment (such as temperature change)to voice messages could also have the potential to remind people to take medications, while video telephones could provide personal contact with fri-ends, family and cares.

To sum up, as the time gone by, the technology development will become as quickly as possible. So we can have a prediction in our future. We will make lives simpler by the electric technology and products.
