UNIX - Copying Files Remotely Examples(scp/pscp)

In order to copy files you will use the command scp

a. When copying files from your computer to zeus this will be done in the form

scp <origin_location> @zeus.vse.gmu.edu:<destination_location>

b. When copying files from zeus to your computer this will be done in the form

scp @zeus.vse.gmu.edu:<origin_location> <destination_location>

Windows

1. The pscp command can be used in the windows command prompt in the following form to transfer a file from Zeus to your computer after which you will be prompted for your password

pscp @zeus.vse.gmu.edu:<location_of_file_to_transfer> <local_destination_of_file>

2. The pscp command can be used in the windows command prompt in the following form to transfer a file from your computer to Zeus after which you will be prompted for your password

pscp <location_of_file> @zeus.vse.gmu.edu:<destination_of_file>
