Reflective Journal on Digital Multimodal Composing
The first two workshops on digital multimodal writing have been beneficial to me, which not only stimulate me to use these skills to polish compositions, but also help me a lot in my daily life.
Initially, I've learnt the 5 modes of DMC, including linguistic, visual, aural, gestural and spatial modes. From my perspective, I think these five modes make my eassays more vivid and apeealing, while correcting my bad habits of just telling not showing. What's more, with the addition of the five modes, characters in my essays are not as flat as before, leading the readers can imagine the scene in their minds. Additionally, people tend to use gestures when words fail. So it is the gestures, one of the modes, that help me to have a better understanding of what other's meaning when barriers stand between me and the foreigners during the English corner.
To apply what I've learnt in real-life contexts, I believe the proverb that "Practice makes perfect". Therefore, I will apply these skills deliberately. For example, when some blossoms come into my sight, instead of just sigh "What a beautiful flower!", I will say "With the choros of the birds, the breeze fondles the blossoms that shine under the sunshine." Maybe it will not be excellent at first, but I believe "fake it till you'll make it".
What's more, I think grasping DMC is very valuable and beneficial. As we major in English education, we will make many presentations and teaching PPT in the future. With the assistance of these skills, such as adding music into PPT, our presentation could be more appealing.
In conclusion, these workshops enhance our ability that not just focus on how to write a better composition, bue also teach us how to express ourselves correctly in our daily lives by using gestures and other modes.
