Title: Software Development Engineer II-Senior SDE

Location: Beijing, China

STCA was founded in year 2005 and is now starting the second “Five-Year Plan” after the merge with the Ads Platform Center in 2011. The new team has not only built up its strengths and expanded its scope, but also set a shared goal, broadened its vision, and equipped with richer resources that gives the team the confidence to scale new heights.

STCA is now focusing on the following areas: the continuous exploration of Bing search technology; the technical innovation of online advertisement services; the development of the MSN social platform; and the development of mobile search applications. Today, STCA has hundreds of excellent employees and is the largest R&D team of the Microsoft Online Service Division outside the United States.

The R&D of Search Ads aims to build an online advertising ecosystem including users, advertisers, and the search engine. We are able to identify user needs and preferences from the user query with our leading technology and experience, by which we establish connections between the “Ad display” and “ads that match the user query.”   Not only on global market, we will make impact in Asia market and drive Microsoft online success in future.

This is a fun and fast paced environment and a great opportunity to work on something highly strategic to Bing search engine, and to Microsoft online service. We have very tough competition and there are a lot of challenges for us to tackle.

Search Ads Delivery Engine (DE) Team

Bing Ads Delivery Engine is a large scale distributed backend system that powers up the Bing/Yahoo monetization, it handles millions of ads delivery requests and matches between hundreds billion query ads pair per day.   Beijing DE team is working on Stream Computing Platform, which is a distributed near real time computing platform that enables near real-time capability in Delivery Engine. Beijing DE team is also working on Selection and Ranking, which is the core area that help improving ads serving quality and impact revenue directly by hosting and powering various machine learning models and generating signals for those models.

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for motivated and talented individuals at various career stages of their careers including Software Development Engineer II, and Senior Software Development Engineer, to build the DE platform that powers the Search Ads and supports algo innovation in an agile, flexible, efficient, scalable way.

As a Software Development Engineer II, you will design, develop, test and deliver quality features. You must feel comfortable operating within a fast moving research and development team. You should have great core development skills: strong passion for delivering quality products, proven track record of working in a product group, great design, coding, and debugging skills, and excellent written and oral communication. The ability to handle multiple concurrent releases and demonstrated experience driving for results in a cross-group/team project is a must.

Qualification

A BS/MS or PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field

3+ years of experience programming in C/C++/C#, Java and/or other computer programming languages preferred

Experience in distributed system development, database, ads serving or other related backend system development is a big plus

Experience in information retrieval, data mining, machine learning, classification or clustering is a big plus

Ability to derive creative and innovative solutions by thinking "outside the box"

Expertise in feature definition, design, and feasibility

Demonstrated skill in estimating development time
