Search Technology Center Asia (STCA)

STCA was founded in year 2005 and is now starting the second “Five-Year Plan” after the merge with the Ads Platform Center in 2011. The team has not only built up its strengths and expanded its scope, but also set a shared goal, broadened its vision, and equipped with richer resources that gives the team the confidence to scale new heights.

STCA is now focusing on the following areas: the continuous exploration of Bing search technology; the technical innovation of online advertisement services; the development of the MSN social platform; the development of mobile search applications and Speech technology. Today, STCA has hundreds of excellent employees and is the largest R&D team of the Microsoft Online Service Division outside the United States.

The R&D of Search Ads aims to build an online advertising ecosystem including users, advertisers, publishers and the search engine. We are able to identify user needs and preferences from the user query and user behavior history/context with our leading technology, by which we establish connections between the “user intent” and “ads content and service.”   Deep understanding of user/ad content and context is the key technology and making the user satisfaction is our final goal.

This is a fun and fast paced environment and a great opportunity to work on something highly strategic to Bing search engine, and to Microsoft online service. We have very tough competition and there are a lot of challenges for us to tackle.

Incubation team is recently set up for the forward looking strategy on research and development of the advanced technologies of Microsoft Ads system. The technical innovation is the major horsepower of incubation work. We aim at delivering the world class algorithm and features for better understanding of auction system, user intent and ad content/context in order to deliver the best service to users.

We are looking for a Senior Research Engineer or applied scientist for Microsoft STCA Ads Incubation Team. As a hard-core member of MS Ads team, you will be developing the innovated key technology for search Ads and related components for global online ads markets.

This position is a hands-on technical lead/architect role. The position requires Master or PhD Degree in computer science or equivalent, plus relevant industry experiences.

Minimum Job Qualifications

•      5+ yrs working experience on software research and development

•      Hands-on software development experiences in C++ or C#

•      Experience in modeling, machine learning, feature extraction, and data mining, ideally on a Web scale.

•      Experience or interest in search engines and information retrieval.

•      Solid statistical knowledge and intuition.

•      Practical experiences in Grid computing and data mining

•      Proven experience in web scale software systems/services deployment

•      Clear thinker in solving complex problems

•      Strong communication and coordination skills

Desirable Plus Qualifications

•      Hands-on experiences in leading Search/Display Advertising systems architecture design and development

•      Practical experiences in leading the algorithm design and implementation

•      Skills and experiences in user behavior/intent studies

•      Expert in data analysis, machine learning and statistical modeling

•      Established track record in research and publication of IR and related fields.
