As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, people began to tell the customs of the festival and the ackownledged stories behind it.The festival, also known as Duanwu or Double Fifth Festival, is deeply rooted in Chinese traditions and commemorates the life and death of the famous poet and statesman Qu Yuan.
Qu Yuan, a loyal minister of the State of Chu during the Warring States period, was known for his patriotism and dedication to his people. However, he was wrongfully accused of treason and exiled by the emperor. In his exile, he composed many sincere and impassionated poems expressing his love for his country and his people.When his country perished,he committed suicide by jumping into the miluo river.Touched by his patriotism and pure love to his country and people,people in later generation began to mourn him on this day and spread his story.
