　　在对否定的陈述句作出简短的回答时， 我们一般用 why not ? 不用 why? 。 试比较

　　They've decided to move to Devon. ~~~ why？

　　他们已经决定搬到德文了。～～为什么？

　　Ｉcann't manage tomorrow evening. ~~ Why not? 

　　明天晚上我做不到。~~ 为什么不行。 

　　Why not ? 也可以用来表示同意一项建议。

　　Let's eat out this evening. ~~ Yes, why not ?

　　咱们今晚出去吃吧。~~ 好啊， 干吗不去呀？

2. why should ... ?

　　why 后面跟 should 的结构可以表示惊奇。

　　I woulder why she should want to go out with me.

　　我奇怪她为什么要跟我交往。

　　这一结构也可以表示生气或拒绝做某事。

　　I don't see why we should have to pay for  your mistake.

　　我不懂为什么我们必须为你的错误付出代价。

　　Give me a cigarette. ~~ Why should I?

　　给我一支烟。~~ 我为什么要给？

3. 动词不定式结构

　　Why 后面可以跟不带to的动词不定式。这一结构表示某动作是不必要的蔌或无意义的。

　　Why argue with him? He'll never change his mind.

　　为什么要跟他争论？他永远不会改变自己的看法。

　　Why pay more other shops ?  We have the best value.

　　为什么花更多的钱到其他商店去买？ 我们这里物美价廉。

　　Why not + 不带to动词不定式用来提出建议。

　　Sandy's  in a bad mood. ~~ Why not give her some flowers?

　　桑迪情绪不好。~~为什么不送她一些花呢？

　　Why don't  ... ? 用法相同。 

　　Why don't you give her some flowers? 你为什么不给她一些花呢？

　　Why don't we go and see Julie? 我们为什么不去看看朱莉呢？
