The adapted story
My name is Fan Jin, an ordinary farmer's son, who has had an extraordinary dream of studying since childhood. In those days when the imperial examinations were prevalent, to be successful in the examination was the beginning of a new life, glory and wealth.
I remember the day of the examination, the weather was unusually sunny. With years of accumulated knowledge and full of enthusiasm, I entered the examination room. It was a long day, between pen, ink and paper, as if carrying all my future. I tried to concentrate on every word and every sentence, only hoping to show my years of hard work and study.
When I left the exam room, I was filled with anxiety that was hard to quell. Back home, I hardly dared to think about the results of the examination, just silently waiting for the results to be announced.
During that time, every day was like a year, the neighbours looked down on me, The butcher scolded me for not being good at anything. Until the day the results were released, my mother and wife were so hungry they couldn't keep their eyes open, so I had to go to the market and sell my old hens for rice. But no one seemed to need it, and I returned home lost.
When I reached the door of my house, I found my mother surrounded by neighbours, carrying rice and wine in her hands, with a red cloth in front of the door. Just as I was trying to figure out what was happening, someone shouted, "You've won the lottery!" I walked in. I walked into a look at the home hanging high post of congratulations, to confirm that I really won the election, two eyes closed directly planted over.
After waking up, my mouth straight chanting: "I pass the provincial level imperial examination,I pass the provincial level imperial examination!", and then open legs to run wildly, an accidentally fell into the door of the stinking mud pond. I then ran to the street in ecstasy, venting my emotions, until The butcher hit me with a slap and I fainted.
When I woke up, I found a man in official clothes next to me, introducing me to official positions and asking me to consider my future career. As I got on the carriage with him, many neighbours and squires came to congratulate me, and even The butcher changed his previous attitude towards me and sent me a lot of meat and silver, and his words became very polite.
At the age of 54, I formally embarked on my career.
