英语表达技巧—委婉地表达消极，否定情感

一、委婉表达坏消息

不好的表达让坏消息变得更加糟糕。

I have to cancel the meeting.没有任何道歉和解释，语气太生硬。

推荐：

I'm afraid I have to cancel the meeting.

I'm so sorry but I have to cancel the meeting.

Unfortunately, something's come up and I have to cancel the meeting.

好的表达缓冲坏消息带来的冲击。

二、记得用model verb(would, could, may, might)

情态动词让说话听上去更礼貌，同时在发表意见时也不会显得武断。

上级安排给你事情，但是你觉得时间不够用，很多人会说：

I want more time.

推荐：

I could do with more time.

It would be so helpful to have more time.

例如：

Give me an answer by tomorrow.(不止生硬还很粗鲁)

Could you give me an answer by tomorrow?

三、表达消极的事情时尝试用积极的语音

不好的表达让消极的信息变得更消极。

You can't use the conference room until my meeting ends.

推荐：

The meeting room is all yours after my meeting ends.

I am not happy with the arrangements.

推荐：

I have some reservations on the arragements, I wounder if it could be adjusted.

好的表达显得你更加积极主动。

四，谨慎使用极端量化词

very, extremely, too, a lot of等极端量化词和否定放一起后，会扩大对方对消极反馈的解读。

Your report is very confusing.

推荐：

Your report is slightly confusing.

在否定表达中，需要用量化词时，考虑用a little, a bit, a little bit, slight, slightly, small, one or two等中性量化词来代替。

We are having problems with the new medical device.

推荐：

We are having one or two problems with the new product.

We're going to run over budget.

推荐：
We're going to run slightly over budget.

The launch plans are behind schedule.

The launch plans are a little bit behind schedule.

五，使用反义疑问句

We should change the wording of the risk warning in our brochures.(过于直接)

推荐：
Shouldn't we change the wording of the risk warning in our brochues.

反义疑问句让语气更缓和，在和上级和客户交流时可以派上大用场。

We must inform the shareholders immediately.

推荐：
Woundn't it be a good idea to inform the shareholders immediately?

Couldn't we arrange to inform the shareholders immediately?

六，使用被动语态

传递消极情感时，被动语态能够避免给人指责的感觉。

You said you were going to sign the contract today.(明显在指责对方违背了承诺)

推荐：

We were told that you were going to sign the contract today.(指出了问题的同时，弱化了对方而避免了指责)

You agreed to lower your fees.

推荐：

It was agreed you would lower your fees.
