Unit 3: Present continuous and present simple (1)
use the continuous for something that is happening at or around the time of speaking. The action is not finished.
- The water is boiling, can you turn it off?
- Let's go our. It isn't raining now.
- Dn't bother me. I am busy.
- I am going to bed now. Goodnight!
Using the continuous for temporary situation:
- I am leaving I am living with some friends until I find a flat.
- you're working hard today.
Present simple (I do)
Use the simple for things in genearal or things that happen repeatedly.
- water boils at 100 degree celsius.
- Excuse me, do you speak english?
- what do you usually do at weekends?
use the simple for a permanent situation:
- My parents live in London.
比较： I am always do 和 I'm always doing 是有不同的：
usually we say 'I always do something'.
- I always go to work by car. (==我一直开车上班)
you can say I'm always doing something, but this means you do something very often, more than the speaker thinks is normal or reasonable.
- I've lost my key again. I'm always losing things.
- I'm always losing things doesn't means I lose things every time.
- you are always watching television. You should do something more active.
- John is never satisfied. He's always complaining.
