According to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, Jim Gray sailed out on a day trip on his 40' sailboat and failed to return. The Coast Guard search is now on for Jim and his boat.
Jim Gray is an icon in the database industry. Myself, and others working on DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, Tandem non-Stop SQL and other relational database product learned transaction processing from Jim Gray's books and papers on the subject.
Our thoughts are with Jim and his family as we hope for a successful conclusion to the coast guard search and his safe return.
